A Fontana man pleaded guilty Tuesday to stealing from Oxnard residents in a foreclosure consultant scam, officials said.

As owner and operator of Global Home Investments, Jose Armando Rodriguez, 57, told five victims he would save their homes from foreclosure, according to the Ventura County District Attorney's Office. From 2010 to 2012 Rodriguez took thousands of dollars from the victims, including married couples, but they received no assistance from him, Senior Deputy District Attorney Tony Wold said.

Rodriguez also filed false trust deeds and assignments of rent, which the victims discovered later when they tried to short-sell their homes, the District Attorney's Office said.

All five victims lost their homes as a result of his involvement and in total lost about $50,000, prosecutors said.

Rodriguez pleaded guilty to grand theft, foreclosure consultant fraud and recording a false instrument. He is expected to be sentenced to a year in jail, placed on 60 months of probation and ordered to pay restitution when he returns to court at 8:30 a.m. Feb. 15, the District Attorney's Office said.
