Sexual assault of child prompts Mesa police community meeting

Mesa police released a sketch of a man who sexually assaulted a child during the night of Jan. 9, 2017.

The Mesa Police Department will hold a community meeting Wednesday night regarding the sexual assault of a child and police efforts to locate the attacker.

The hourlong meeting will be 6 p.m. Wednesday at Holmes Elementary School, 948 S. Horne, in Mesa, according to a Mesa police statement.

Police have yet to make an arrest in the attack, which occurred when an unknown man entered a residence in the area of Broadway Road and Mesa Drive on Jan. 9. Police said the occupants of the home were sleeping when the sexual assault occurred.

Though there are few details about the attacker, he is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 18 to 30 years old, with a short build and short, dark hair, according to the Police Department.
