Quarterbacks coach Brian Callahan, second from left, talks with quarterbacks Jake Rudock (14), Matthew Stafford (9), and Dan Orlovsky (8) during NFL football training camp.

The Detroit Lions have reportedly blocked quarterbacks coach Brian Callahan from interviewing for a position with another team, according to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer.

Callahan was hired by the Lions last February to replace Jim Bob Cooter, who had been promoted to offensive coordinator following the mid-season firing of Joe Lombardi.

Prior to joining the Lions, Callahan spent six seasons with the Denver Broncos as an offensive assistant and quality control coach. He also formerly worked as a graduate assistant at UCLA where he had walked on as a quarterback years earlier.

This isn’t the first time the Lions have blocked an assistant from interviewing elsewhere. When he was still the quarterbacks coach, the team prevented Cooter from interviewing for the Bears offensive coordinator position.
