Bice: Abele rips Sheriff Clarke for backing Cowboys

Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele and Milwaukee County Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr. don't get along under normal circumstances.

Abele spent more than $200,000 from his own pocket trying to defeat Clarke in 2014. Clarke once accused the Democratic county exec of "penis envy" and has sued Abele in federal court.

But the two are really at odds over this weekend's NFL Divisional Playoff game between the Packers and Cowboys. The winner will advance to the NFC championship game.

Milwaukee County Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr. speaks before Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump during a rally at the KI Convention Center in Green Bay.

First, the National Rifle Association's NRATV posted video of Clarke predicting a victory by Dallas on Sunday.

"Big-time Cowboy fan," Clarke said of himself in an interview with host Grant Stinchfield. "How 'bout them Cowboys?"

The sheriff then went on: "Cowboys are going to win. They match up better. They're physically stronger than the Green Bay Packers. It'll be a good game. Cowboys are going to win."

NRATV then tweeted out, "America's Sheriff is supporting America's Team."

It didn't take long for Abele to respond.

"The Cowboys are America's Team about as much as @SheriffClarke is Milwaukee's sheriff. #GoPackGo," Abele wrote.

Ouch!

Not to be outdone, the sheriff responded on Twitter: "Surprised Abele watches football. Seems like a game too violent and physical for him to watch. Badminton seems more like him."

Clarke's uncle, Franklin Clarke, was a wide receiver and tight end for the Cowboys in the 1960s. Franklin Clarke set franchise records for most consecutive games with touchdown receptions and most TD receptions in a season.

The sheriff has said he frequently wears a cowboy hat and boots in honor of his uncle's football career.
