A Lee County man once deemed Southwest Florida’s “most wanted” fugitive was found guilty Friday of a role in the kidnappings and killings of three Bonita Springs men in 2007.

Wesnel Isaac

Wesnel Isaac, 35, was found guilty of three counts each of second-degree murder, kidnapping and conspiracy to commit kidnapping or murder, according to the State Attorney’s Office.

The jury started deliberations Thursday night and returned Friday morning to deliberate further. In all, they were out for almost five hours, the State Attorney’s Office reported.

At the time of the killings, Isaac was an enforcer for the Haitian gang Zoe Pound. His diminutive stature – he stands 5-foot-5 and weighs 140 pounds – masked a vicious violent streak, authorities said at the time of his 2014 arrest. In all, he has been arrested more than 35 times.

Lee County Sheriff’s Office investigators said the Bonita Springs killings stemmed from a September 2007 robbery of Isaac’s acquaintance, Loubert Jules, at an Esplanade Street house about 2 miles west of U.S. 41 and Bonita Beach Road.

Four men, led by Isaac and Jules, went to the home planning retribution against drug dealers who robbed Jules, investigators said.

The four men didn’t find the robbers, but they found three people at the home – Willard “Reid” Graham, 55; Scott Highfill, 44; and Robert Barckley, 36 – and kidnapped them. The bodies of Graham, Highfill and Barckley were found in a bullet-riddled vehicle in Lehigh Acres. All three were shot in the head.

Detectives said they believe Isaac shot two of the men and Jules shot one.

Isaac was believed to have fled to Haiti after the killings and evaded capture for seven years. He became Southwest Florida’s “most wanted fugitive” and was added to the U.S. Marshal’s 15 Most Wanted List in 2013.

In May 2014, the Haitian National Police found Isaac living in an impoverished slum in Carrefour, about 10 miles west of Port-au-Prince, Haiti’s capital. He was the last of the four suspects to be arrested.

Isaac is scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 13.

Jules, now 29, was convicted by a jury on three counts of second-degree murder in 2010 and received three life sentences.

Two other men involved in the killings, Peter Belvilus and George Guerrier, accepted plea agreements in exchange for testimony against Jules. Both received eight-year prison sentences.
