A 61-year-old man was sentenced Thursday to 20 years in prison for the shotgun slaying of his girlfriend's son for disrespecting the older man in his own home.

Jessie James

Jessie James pleaded guilty Thursday to a reduced charge of second-degree reckless homicide with a dangerous weapon in the Sept. 12 death of Mannix Franklin.

James told police Franklin, 21, had been staying with James and Franklin's mother at the older couple's apartment at Algonquin Manor, a senior complex in Brown Deer.

Upon returning home from work about 6 p.m., James told police, Franklin began arguing with his mother and wouldn't listen to James' demands that he leave the apartment. Finally, James got a shotgun, loaded it with one shell, pointed it at Franklin and demanded again that he leave the residence.

When Franklin mocked his threat, James pulled the trigger from about 7 feet away.

Circuit Judge Joseph Donald ordered James serve 10 years of supervised release after he gets out of prison when he would be 81.
