New Congressional Gold Medal to be Awarded to Filipino WWII Veterans

In other news, the House has unanimously passed H.R. 2737, the “Filipino Veterans of World War II Congressional Gold Medal Act of 2015” (the Senate version, S. 1555, passed in July). The act awards one of the nation’s highest honors to the thousands of Filipinos who fought with the Allied Forces in the Second World War. Some 15,000 Filipino veterans, in their eighties and older, are still living.  ❑

    APMEX is having a 24 hour Sale on tubes of 2016 ASE’s.

    $2.59 above spot. AP’s pay $2.00 above spot.

    I’m not a Buyer. Just passing on information.

    (I previously bought my Tubes of 2016 ASE’s. Now IF theses were pre-sale 2017s I would be a Buyer)…

    The House of Reps is voting today on the Apollo 11 coin legislation. Is is supposed to be around 3pm EST and should be on C-SPAN.

  4. Louis Golino, Author says

    The bill passed! This should put pressure on the Senate to get more co-sponsors so they can vote too.

  5. Louis Golino, Author says

    Alert for Ryan! MCM just dropped the price on the French gold medal to $2500. Did you already order?

  6. Ryan says

    @Louis

    Yes I just saw that and sadly yes I did order!! They haven’t shipped yet and I just wrote them an email saying that I would gladly buy two and pay the difference. I’m hope I g they let me do that, it’s not a “bullion” item and should be returnable. What do you guys think? I order a lot of coins and bullion, not a ton from them but if they burn me I’ll never buy from them again! I’ll let you guys know.

  7. Ryan says

    I really think they’ll give me the discount because the price of that coin has nothing to do with gold spot price or market movements. If they give me trouble should I call my credit card company and deny charges? I mentioned to them in the email that a few people even bought coins from them because I posted on here.

  8. Louis Golino, Author says

    @Ryan- I think they will work something out with you. I’d call in the morning and see what you can work out. See if you can cancel the first order and then place a new one at the discounted price, or otherwise ask about returning the first coin. Their return policy says non-bullion items have a 14-day return period unless otherwise noted in the coin listing.

  9. Ryan says

    Yeah I just read that too. I looked in the listing and it doesn’t say anything about not being returnable and doesn’t have the warning that bullion items have about price movements. Actually this will be great news if they fix the price for me because I’ll buy two!

  10. Ryan says

    Wish there was someone there to talk to tonight, even though after reading the return policy I know it will be fixed I wish I could just get it settled.

  11. Ryan says

    Speaking of bullion and no returns, how many of you guys also buy bullion? I can’t believe the market action right now. Seems to me the bull market death by optimism for equities is happening now. I’ve been adding to my bullion on this pull back, anyone else?

  12. fmtransmitter says

    What Fench coin and who says it doesn’t have to do with bullion price? Coins are PM’s bought at a bit above spot and stamped…Then some royaltys to Disney, etc…I am for sure that coins have to do bullion spot. I have seen spreadsheets from major dealers that prove it. They deal in weight…

  13. Ryan says

    The price of this coin doesn’t price to the market, there’s no fix mechanism for minute by minute. Not valued by its weight.

  14. fmtransmitter says

    Did you all know our motto WAS, Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of PROPERTY?? Hmm..Takes a village (idiot)…

  15. Tinto says

    @Louis Golino, Author

    Thanks for that info on the Moon Landing. Now hopefully the Senate will get its act together.

  16. Louis Golino, Author says

    @Tinto- My pleasure. With such a strong House vote, I think there is a good chance we will see the Senate act soon. It’s pretty hard to be against this, which is why everyone who spoke today did so in defense of the bill.

  17. says

    I usually get emails from APMEX on their flash sales…didn’t get one regarding tubes of 2016 SAE@ $2.49 over spot….and i don’ see this offer on their website.

    Anyone have a link to that Deal? Thanks

  18. joe#2 says

    Dang Ryan.. I just got an e-mail from MCM, The statue of liberty coin on sale now. The gold one. 1 ounce.

  19. Louis Golino, Author says

    Well, that’s a new one. Someone bought a graded wedge tailed eagle bullion coin from me and is returning it because they don’t think it is as beautiful as they thought it would be. Guess the pics did not help.

    🙁
    I put LOCAL PICK UP ONLY on a very large item and anded up having to spend a day packing it and shipping it off because he couldn’t read. He paid for it AND my time!! eBay is NOT what it used to be!!

    FMT – No reason to spend a year’s salary just to appreciate FG. That thing must be huge at almost 19 ounces! I have the baby version with a nice wooden box. Only about 1/3 oz though and a few thousand more minted

    Thanks, I will have to look around for one of those…Love that design…Do you know if they made it in silver?

  22. gatortreke says

    @ fmtransmitter: The design looks better in silver though I wouldn’t refuse the big gold version if it showed up under the Christmas tree. Hmm I wonder what my wife would say?

    (no, I really don’t need to wonder)

  23. So Krates says

    Yeah I picked mine up about four years ago. Thought I did great at 6% under spot but we’re down 30% an ounce from there, so …a good deal don’t stay good forever.

  24. Fmtransmitter says

    I just feel these are the last of the Mohicans long term when coins were struck from hand carved dies AND drawings…Of course I am thinking way long term when our grandkids grandkids get here. I think they will one day be in museums or museum bound.

  25. Fmtransmitter says

    @gatortreke: I agree, the silver has that antique look that is being faked on today’s moderns…

  26. KML in KY says

    I need to stay off this blog. You all just made buy a 1964-D Morgan dollar from Moonlight and now you’ve made me buy a French Statue of Liberty silver medal from MCM. Why don’t you give me some money so you can make me buy the gold medal too?

  27. Ryan says

    Just got off the phone with MCM and they cancelled the Gold Medal of my order with no questions or me having to fight with them! Later today I’m going to reorder it, need to decided now if I want one or two! Just wanted to tell you guys because after this I’ll definitely check MCM first when I look to buy because they could have been real jerks about it if they wanted to.

  28. Ryan says

    @KML

    I don’t know your friend financial situation but, when have you seen a better looking coin than the French gold medal they’re selling? IMO I haven’t seen a new production coin this year or if I think about it EVER so if it were me I’d scrape together the money and just say no to coins over the next year that aren’t as beautiful. That being said be responsible with your money, if you can’t do it, you can’t do it.

  29. cagcrisp says

    The afore mentioned French Gold MEDAL. Was 309% over spot. Now 113% over spot.

    Those that are inclined to purchase Either the Gold or Silver Medal from France that are limited mintage of 200 or 400, Probably shouldn’t Ever read any of my post.

    100% against everything I believe. not 99%. 100%…

  30. Ryan says

    @cagcrisp

    What is it you believe, that you should only pay near spot? Not criticizing, I just honestly don’t know what you think.

  31. Mike in NY says

    The gold and silver French Statue of Liberty medals certainly have high prices relative to spot but that should not be the sole determining factor when deciding whether to purchase. I was fortunate to pick up the last available 70 graded silver medal and I am really looking forward to receiving it.

    Yes, I could have purchased several more ounces of silver for $149 but the artistry of this medal is amazing and well worth the premium to me. I like the 2016 Silver Liberty medals, many of which sell for comparable prices on Ebay, but they are not in the same league as this medal. As they say, “Buy what you like”.
