New Orleans – Detroit Lions linebacker Tahir Whitehead did not travel with the team and has been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Saints.

A knee injury limited Whitehead in practice during the week and he had been ruled questionable on Friday’s injury report. The veteran middle linebacker, in his fifth season with the Lions, had played every defensive snap this season.

Whitehead has appeared in 70 consecutive games for Detroit, dating back to his rookie season in 2012.

It’s expected Josh Bynes will start at middle linebacker against the Saints. And with DeAndre Levy’s status still uncertain, rookie Antwione Williams should see an increased workload. He’s played between 15-18 snaps the past four games.
