You remember snow, right?

Well, remember how to drive in it, too, OK?

Ready or not, Wisconsinites experienced a rude awakening Sunday— winter has officially arrived.

A winter weather advisory is in effect in the Milwaukee area until about 6 p.m. Sunday, with snowfall causing reduced visibility and slippery conditions on the roads, according to the National Weather Service in Sullivan.

"Usually that first snow of the winter, there are accidents," said Brian Hahn, a forecaster at the weather service in Sullivan. "People have to refresh their driving skills for the winter."

Steady snow will continue across south and east central Wisconsin until early Sunday evening, totaling three to four inches across most of the Milwaukee area. Snowfall may accumulate up to five inches in south central Wisconsin, according to a news release from the weather service.

"Drivers tend to underestimate the effect of the snow on roadways during the first snowfall of the season," the release says. "Rule number one today is slow down when driving in the snow."

In the Green Bay area, a winter weather advisory is in effect until about 9 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Green Bay. Snow is expected to keep falling until the evening, accumulating two or four inches in most areas near Green Bay, according to the weather service.

Motorists returning south after the Packers game are encouraged to watch out for slippery spots due to snowfall, according to the Brown County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office responded to about five spin out incidents on I-43 in a five mile stretch between the Village of Denmark and Wisconsin Highway 172 early Sunday. Crews from the sheriff's office responded to a few other incidents as well, but the last ten miles on I-43 into Green Bay were the worst, according to the sheriff's office.
