Nebraska farm sale brings $37.5-million

One of Nebraska’s largest farms brought more than $37-million at auction on Thursday.  The Thomas Land Company, a more than 28,000 acre operation, is situated on the edge of the Sand Hills ranching country between the North Platte and South Platte Rivers.

The land was offered in 50 parcels and bidders were allowed to bundle tracts of land.

The sale featured 3,647 acres of irrigated land; 11,705 dryland acres; and 13,293 acres of ranchland.

Following the sale, owner Lola Thomas told the Omaha World-Herald she was please that neighbors and local farmers and ranchers purchased most of the land.

The farm and ranch operation was put together by the late Michael Thomas.  He died in 2015 at the age of 74.
