Chip Kelly maintains he won't return to Oregon

San Francisco 49ers head coach Chip Kelly looks on against the Arizona Cardinals during the first half at University of Phoenix Stadium.

With the University of Oregon head coaching position officially open, Chip Kelly isn't changing his tune.

The San Francisco 49ers coach reiterated Wednesday that he has no intention to return to the school after Mark Helfrich was fired Tuesday. Amid the 49ers' 10-game losing streak and consistent speculation about a coaching change for the Ducks, Kelly had stated in previous weeks that he has not spoken with anyone at Oregon and that he was not interested in pursuing the job.

Asked Wednesday if he would remain with the 49ers, Kelly said, "Yep. So we're all done with that, I hope."

Rams exec: Jeff Fisher shouldn't be judged on record alone

Kelly had little interest in discussing the opening as he prepares San Francisco for Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears.

"The only person I've talked to (at Oregon) is Helfrich," Kelly said. "So we can talk about the Bears."

Kelly led the Ducks to a 46-7 record from 2009-12, a four-year run that included three conference championships and a trip to the 2011 National Championship Game. He then left to coach the Philadelphia Eagles, leading the team to 10-6 records in each of his first two years before being fired in Week 16 of last season with a 6-9 mark.
