CHAMBERSBURG - In early November, Letterkenny Munitions Center hosted the Joint Munitions Command commanding Gen. Richard Dix.

Lt. Col. Trenton Conner, commander of LEMC met with Dix to discuss LEMC's value to Joint Munitions Command, the U.S. Army and the Department of Defense.

Dix was presented with an overview of LEMC operations that contribute to Army readiness. Other LEMC leaders also gave Dix a tour of the center that included the Less-Than-Truckload facility, Primary Containerization Dock and Blocking and Bracing facility. The tour also highlighted the Multiple Launch Rocket System family of munitions, interservice missile maintenance facilities and LEMC’s nondestructive testing/x-ray facility.

One of the most notable areas Dix was shown was LEMC's demilitarization facilities. The tour provided a demonstration of the static fire of rocket motors and finished with a showing of LEMC's new Ammonium Perchlorate Rocket Motor Thermal Destruction Facility, due to open in February 2017. It provides a new way to dispose of AP based rocket motors that is not as harmful to the environment. It reduces the need for static burn of rocket motors, reducing both noise and environmental pollution.

At every stop, Dix spoke with employees, introducing himself and thanking them for their contributions to Army readiness.

Finally Dix met with some of LEMC's Vietnam War veterans and honored them for their service. He presented 14 employees with plaques, decals and pins, thanking them for their sacrifice and letting them know how important their service was.
