Taking the emotion out of the decision making

A risk management expert says tight farm margins could cause farmers to make emotional decisions.

Dennis Badger with Farm Credit Mid-America says they need to look out for the overall success of the business and that means keeping a close eye on their short-term cash flow and long-term equity positions.

“My experience has been farmers that typically have been in it for any significant period of time or have a family history of farming are well grounded,” he says.  “For the future and for understanding the need to be conservative and cautiously optimistic.”

He says some farmers are positioned well and are looking at the current environment as an opportunity for expansion.
