Crop rotation reduces white mold in soybean fields
A plant pathologist with Ohio State University reminds growers if they find white mold they need to rotate crops for next year. Dr. Anne Dorrance says the cold weather won’t kill the disease.
“Especially in the fields where this was a problem, please plant those fields to something other than soybeans. All of these fungi are going to over winter on that crop residue from the season so think about the crops and definitely get it rotated out of there.” says Dorrance.
She tells Brownfield they continue to review samples submitted to the plant pathology department.
“We do have some samples that have some black and brown discoloration which could be some new variants. We’re in the midst of running some diagnostic essays on those right now,” says Dorrance.
Dorrance says there aren’t a lot of fungus issues being reported this year, but the concentration of fields are in the southwest part of the state.
