College roundup: AMU men's basketball beats College of the Bahamas

The Ave Maria University men’s basketball team won 95-85 win over the College of the Bahamas at home to open its season on Thursday night at Golisano Field House.

The Gyrenes held a 56-47 lead at the end of the first half, then went on a 9-0 run to build an 18-point lead with 17:50 left in the second and never looked back. It was Ave Maria's highest final score since the Gyrenes put 110 points on the board against Florida National on Dec. 10, 2013.

Deonte Dixon led AMU with 28 points, making six 3-pointers. Tejai Allen, a former FGCU walk-on, followed with 17 points. Derrick Nicholas and Ray Rodriguez each had  14, and Exor Torres added 11 for the Gyrenes. Allen had nine rebounds and four assists.
