Authorities were looking for the public's help in identifying a man suspected of attempting to kidnap a 13-year-old girl.

Police were searching for a man suspected in an attempted kidnapping in Simi Valley, authorities said.

The incident occurred about 4 p.m. Monday when the victim, a 13-year-old girl, got off a city bus at Stearns Street and Cochran Street, Simi Valley police said.

The victim had gotten on the bus about 15 minutes earlier near Tapo Street and Township Avenue, officials said.

When she got off the bus, a man also exited and began following her as she walked home, authorities said. The man allegedly grabbed her and tried to force her to go with him, police said. Police said the man let go of her when a person driving in the area saw what was going on and honked a vehicle's horn.

The girl ran home and told her father what happened, but police could not find the man in the area once they got on scene, authorities said.

The man is described as 30 to 40 years old, 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing about 160 pounds with black hair, police said.
