Madison — Chelsea Clinton asked a young crowd of supporters here Tuesday to redouble their efforts and return her mother to the White House.

Speaking from a stage at the upscale Overture Center for the Arts, Clinton made a personal appeal on behalf of Hillary Clinton as she takes on Republican and real estate mogul Donald Trump. Chelsea Clinton said that she was "ridiculously proud" to be the Democratic nominee's daughter but that she thinks of the election's effect on her own son and daughter.

"Whomever we elect to replace President Obama will help shape the future for my children and your children and grandchildren," Clinton told a crowd of a few hundred.

Clinton gave examples of children that she said had faced fears or bullying in school because of what she called the "Trump effect," saying he had given the nation "an almost daily diet of hate speech” toward minorities and women.

Hillary Clinton, a Democrat and former secretary of state, senator and first lady, is campaigning to be the first woman to serve as the nation's commander in chief. Polling has her leading in Wisconsin against Trump, a billionaire and television personality running in his first campaign.

Introducing Chelsea Clinton, U.S. Rep. Mark Pocan, a Madison Democrat, warned against overconfidence on the part of Democrats, saying that being ahead in the polls means nothing if voters don't turn out on Nov. 8.

The Trump campaign responded that Clinton was the candidate of the past and Trump was the "candidate of change."

"Wisconsin voters want a president that they trust will put the needs of the American taxpayer above their own,” said Pete Meachum, Wisconsin director for the Trump campaign.
