One person was critically injured in a three-vehicle traffic collision in Oxnard, authorities said.

The incident was reported just before 6:10 p.m. Monday at Wagon Wheel and Ventura roads, officials reported.

The male passenger of a vehicle involved in the crash was taken to Ventura County Medical Center in Ventura, where he remained in critical condition Tuesday morning, officials said. Two other males, both drivers, were taken to the hospital but later released. The female driver of a third vehicle was not reported injured.

According to Oxnard police, the wreck occurred as three vehicles were northbound on Ventura Road approaching Wagon Wheel Road. Each vehicle was in its own lane before the accident, officials said.

The vehicle in the center lane, holding a male driver and a male passenger, collided with the other two cars and began to rotate, eventually crashing into a Highway 101 overpass support pillar, authorities reported.

The vehicle in the left lane, occupied by a lone male driver, went down an embankment near the overpass.

Oxnard fire crews used extrication tools to remove the driver and passenger of one vehicle, police reported.

Police closed Ventura Road between Stone Creek Drive and Town Center Drive for several hours as authorities cleaned up debris from the crash. The California Highway Patrol provided traffic control at the Oxnard Boulevard offramp.

The collision is under investigation by Oxnard Police Department.
