Halloween Dog Costume Contest to be held

FILLMORE - Soroptimist International of Fillmore will be having a Halloween Dog Costume Contest from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. It will be held at the Fillmore City Park located at the corner of Main and Fillmore streets. Dogs 20 pounds and under may enter. They must be in costume, leashed and controlled by their owner. Entry fee per dog is $20, vendor fee is $10, and spectator fee is $5. For more information, contact Cathy Krushell at 415-7421.

Zoo to host annual Halloween event

MOORPARK - America’s Teaching Zoo at Moorpark College is hosting its annual “Boo at the Zoo!” event on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The entry fee is $8 for adults and $6 for children ages 3 to 12. Children under the age of 2 are admitted for free. Moorpark College is located at 7075 Campus Road. Villanova to host golf tournament

OJAI - Villanova Preparatory School will celebrate its annual Oktoberfest Dinner, Raffle and Golf Tournament at Soule Park Golf Course in Ojai on Friday. Car show will feature many types of cars 

SANTA ROSA VALLEY - The 17th Santa Rosa Valley Car Show will be held on Sunday at the Rancho Santa Rosa Clubhouse grounds, 11701 E. Las Posas Road in Santa Rosa Valley. Entrants will be placed beginning at 8 a.m. and the fee for entrants is $20 per car. There is no pre-registration. Admission for spectators is free and the show will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with awards scheduled for 2 p.m. All types and years of collector, sports, hot rod, custom, special interest and classic autos are welcome. Golf tournament to benefit nonprofits

SIMI VALLEY - The Knights of Columbus, Council 9410 out of St. Peter Claver Parish in Simi Valley will be hosting their 5th Annual Charity Golf Tournament at 10 a.m. Nov. 2 at Moorpark Country Club. In honor of Veterans Day, there will be honorary war veterans participating as guests of the Knights of Columbus Council. Charities benefiting from this event include Gold Coast Veterans and Get On The Bus. The cost to participate in the tournament is $165. Funds raised at event to help kids in El Salvador

SIMI VALLEY - Thanksfest: Feed One Fundraiser will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Church of the Living Christ, 171 Royal Ave., Simi Valley. This event is being held to raise money for Feed One through Convoy of Hope in order to provide meals for hungry children in El Salvador. There will be food trucks, live music, a petting zoo, a kids bouncer, face painting, fire trucks, free health screenings and much more. There is no cost for entry. VFW post to hold adult Halloween party

VENTURA - Adults are invited to a Halloween Party at VFW Post 1679 in Ventura on Saturday. A potluck dinner is set for 6 p.m. followed by “Scary-oke” (karaoke) at 7 p.m. Admission is free. Beverages can be purchased. Halloween attire is encouraged (but not required) and a costume contest will take place with cash prizes of $50 for first place and $25 for second place. VENTURA - Cocina Sin Fronteras, the Housing Authority of the City of San Buenaventura’s (HACSB) associated resident services nonprofit, is hosting a Haunted Housing Run/Walk. All proceeds will benefit HACSB’s scholarship program, which is entering its third year of providing support to low-income families working toward educational goals. The Haunted Housing Run event will take place at the San Buenaventura State Beach and consists of a 5k, 10k and a Kids 1-Mile Fun Run. VENTURA COUNTY - “Dreams Into Dollars: Finding Grants for Your Classroom” hands-on workshop will be led by grant writer Jonathan O’Brien on Saturday in Camarillo. Designed for teachers, administrators or parent volunteers, the Ventura County Reading Association’s workshop will be hosted at Pleasant Valley Recreation & Park District Community Center, 1605 E.
