Mountain biker who died near Ojai ID'd

The Ventura County Medical Examiner's Officer identified on Monday morning a mountain biker who died west of Ojai on Saturday as Matthew Steele, 59, of Ventura.

An autopsy was performed Monday where it was determined that Steele had died due to an underlying heart condition, according to the Ventura County medical examiner.

The Ventura County Fire Department was told late Saturday morning that a man was not breathing on a trail in Wills Canyon.

Witnesses said the man was biking along a trail there when he allegedly suffered a heart attack from overexertion, according to the Ventura County Sheriff's Office.

Steele was reported dead at 12:12 p.m.
