3 Milwaukee homicides reported Monday

Three homicides were reported in Milwaukee on Monday and victims of two earlier killings were identified by authorities.

A 23-year-old man was shot to death about 3 p.m. in the 100 block of W. Wright St. A 22-year-old man was arrested in connection with the shooting, Milwaukee police said.

Another man was fatally shot about 1:40 p.m. during an altercation in the 3200 block of N. 24th St. The man, whose age and name were not available, died at the scene despite life-saving measures attempted by first responders, authorities said. Police were seeking suspects in the shooting.

Shortly before 1:30 p.m. a man was found fatally shot inside a business in the 3500 block of W. Silver Spring Drive, police said. Officers were also seeking suspects in that killing.

The killings bring the city's homicide total to 114 victims so far this year, compared to 123 victims at this time last year, according to preliminary data that follows the FBI's Uniform Crime Report. Another 12 killings have been reported, but they do not fall under the homicide definition used by the FBI.

Milwaukee police also identified two recent homicide victims on Monday.

The first victim, whose body was discovered in a trash can on Milwaukee's north side Thursday evening, was identified as Clinton E. Washington, 34.

Washington died from gunshot wounds, and his body was found in an alley in the 2400 block of N. Holton St., according to a news release from the Milwaukee Police Department. Police are still seeking a motive and searching for suspects.

The second man who was shot and killed on Milwaukee's west side Sunday was identified as Sidney R. Smith, 46.

Smith was shot inside a residence in the 3800 block of N. 38th St. about 1 a.m. Sunday, according to a news release.

After being shot Smith fled the residence on foot to the intersection of N. 35th St. and W. Vienna Ave., where he collapsed and died, the news release said. Milwaukee police are seeking a known suspect in connection with the homicide.
