BASICS

What: The 23rd-annual WIAA girls team tennis tournament.

When: Friday-Saturday.

Where: Nielsen Tennis Stadium, Madison.

Admission: $6.

Schedule:Division 1 quarterfinals, 5:30 p.m. Friday - Homestead (24-0) vs. Brookfield East (17-10);Sun Prairie (12-3) vs. Nicolet (19-4); Pulaski (22-4) vs. Neenah (13-3); Eau Claire Memorial (20-5) vs. Madison West (15-5). Saturday.

Division 1 semifinal, 9 a.m Saturday – Homestead/Brookfield East winner vs. Sun Prairie/Nicolet winner; Pulaski/Neenah winner vs. Eau Claire Memorial/Madison West semifinals.

Division 2 semifinal, 9 a.m. Saturday – Stevens Point Pacelli (13-7) vs. Madison Edgewood (16-0);Kohler (11-10) vs. Regis (22-5).

Finals – Division 1 and Division 2, 2 p.m. Saturday.

Youth serves for Homestead tennis

FIELD

Division 1

Brookfield East: The Spartans, who were ranked seventh in the final state coaches poll, are making their third straight appearance. The team lost, 4-3, and, 5-2, to quarterfinal opponent Homestead. Senior Emma Corwin, sophomore Emily Horneffer and junior Allison Brankle and the team of senior Carly Wolff and Maria Korkos won at least one match at individual state.

Eau Claire Memorial: No. 8 Memorial, which will make its seventh straight state appearance, reached the semifinals last year and the final in 2013. Senior Emily Pepperl and Devon Bourget reached the individual state semifinals and finished fourth.

Homestead: The North Shore champion, the state’s top-ranked team in the Division 1, qualified three singles players and two doubles teams to individual state. Freshman Andie Weise (fourth), senior Katya Mikhailenko (sixth) and the team of junior Frankie La Londe and freshman Sasha Shapsis (third) placed.

Madison West: The third-ranked Regents are back at state for the first time since 2009. They qualified two singles players and two doubles teams for individual state. Senior Karolina Lungova won two matches before falling to eventual champion Emily Luetschwager of Stevens Point.

Neenah: The defending champion Rockets finished the season ranked sixth. Senior Christina Price and junior Kiki Risgaard won the state doubles title last week.

Nicolet: This is the sixth straight appearance for the second-ranked Knights. The team qualified two singles and two doubles teams for individual state. The most successful team was sophomore Annabelle Crowley and senior Elise Gerard, who were state runners-up in doubles.

Pulaski: The top player for the Red Raiders, who are making their first appearance, is senior Molly Plummer, a No. 11 seed at individual state who won two matches.

Sun Prairie: Junior Latsami Sysouvanh, who earned a No. 8 seed at individual state, has led the Cardinals to their second straight state appearance. She and senior Julia Hernesman were the team’s individual state qualifiers.

Division 2

Eau Claire Regis: The Ramblers are back at state for the first time since 2014 when they won the title. They had two individuals and two doubles teams at individual state last week.

Kohler: The 10th-ranked Bombers beat No. 4 University School and No. 7 Appleton Xavier at the sectional to advance to state for second straight year.

Madison Edgewood: The top-ranked Crusaders reached the final the past four years, winning titles in 2013 and ’15. Seniors Abby Fox and Maddie Molitor won the state doubles title last week.

Stevens Point Pacelli: The Cardinals are making their first appearance. They had two doubles teams and one singles player at state last week.
