President Barack Obama has issued a disaster declaration for 10 western Wisconsin counties struck by storms, flooding and mudslides in September, the Federal Emergency Management Agency announced Thursday.

The declaration makes federal aid available to Adams, Chippewa, Clark, Crawford, Jackson, Juneau, La Crosse, Monroe, Richland, and Vernon counties, according to a news release from the agency.

The funds are designated for emergency work and repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the storms, according to the release.

The declaration was made after Gov. Scott Walker requested disaster assistance for 12 counties where the Sept. 21 and Sept. 22 storms caused an estimated $11 million in damage. Eau Claire and Trempealeau counties did not sustain enough damage to qualify for federal aid, according to Walker's office.
