Northwest Missouri lags amid “good” statewide harvest

Programs ICONMissouri’s harvest of corn and soybeans is going generally well but lagging in the Northwest corner of the state, mostly because of heavy rains this fall. Missouri Agriculture director Richard Fordyce farms up there, “If you drive from here in Jeff City to Sedalia, you know, there’s very little corn left. And, I know southeast and southwest Missouri, corn harvest is pretty well finished. We’ve got a lot of corn still in the field – and – up in our country, you’ve got to drive a long way to see a soybean field that has had anyone in it yet this fall.”

Last year, 1.6 million of soybean acres were NOT planted because of wet weather, “So, all of those acres got planted (this year) and in a lot of cases got planted in a very timely manner. Everything was kind of in our favor.”

Missouri soybean yields this year are described as exceptional.
