Conservation major focus in next Farm Bill

BrownfieldAppImageThe Ranking Member of the Senate Ag Committee Debbie Stabenow says she plans to continue to support conservation efforts in the 2018 Farm Bill like she did in the current farm bill.

While visiting with Michigan agribusinesses in the Saginaw Bay Area, Stabenow told Brownfield the region’s Saginaw Bay Regional Conservation Partnership Program is one of the best examples of farmers and the local community working to improve water quality and wildlife habitat.  “We have a local project that has some 30 local partners, it’s lead by Michigan agribusiness and The Nature Conservancy working with local farmers to develop better ways to manage property so that we don’t have runoff into the waters.”

Conservation funds are currently available for farmers in the Saginaw Bay Watershed, St. Joseph River Watershed,  and Western Lake Erie Basin to implement conservation practices that improve water quality and reduce erosion.
