Boy, 4, fatally shot in north side home

A 4-year-old boy died of a gunshot wound in his home on Milwaukee's north side Friday, police said.

The shooting was reported shortly before 6 p.m. in the 2100 block of N. 15th St., according to a news release from the Milwaukee Police Department.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Milwaukee County medical examiner's office.

Police blocked off N. 15th St. between W. Lloyd St. and W. North Ave. as small groups of sullen-faced people huddled near crime scene tape and others arrived in cars.

A young woman screamed and lamented the shooting in a parking lot nearby and a weeping woman was comforted by another woman who embraced her under a slight drizzle.

No further information on the shooting was released Friday night.

The boy, whose identity was not released, is the third child younger than 13 to be fatally shot in Milwaukee this year.

On March 12, Arturo Arvelo and his mother Hermalinda Arvelo, 45, were killed inside a home at S. 9th St. and W. National Ave.

And on May 5, Za'Layia Jenkins, 9, was struck by a bullet that pierced a wall of her home in the 1500 block of W. Meinecke Ave. as she watched television.

A 9-year-old boy who was accidentally shot by his 6-year-old brother Sept. 21 in a home in the 2700 block of N. 20th St. survived.

His 30-year-old mother and a 39-year-old man were charged in connection with the shooting.
