From Saturday through Nov. 15 city of Milwaukee residents may rake leaves to the curb lanes of city streets for pickup by the Department of Public Works, the DPW announced Friday.

Residents must keep leaf piles away from storm drains and sewer grates and allow a 1-foot space between a pile and a curb, according to a news release from the department.

Garden debris may be placed on top of leaf piles, however brush - defined as woody stalks, tree branches and bushes - should be placed on the grass next to the curb, according to the release.

Leaves should not be placed in garbage carts or plastic or paper bags, and pumpkins should not be placed on leaf piles. If pumpkins have no candle wax or decorations they may be composted, otherwise they should be placed in garbage carts, according to the DPW.

Residents may visit the DPW website at milwaukee.gov/mpw or call (414) 286-2489 for more information.
