Prep roundup: Golden Gate gets slim win over Port Charlotte

The Golden Gate High School volleyball team beat Port Charlotte 3-2 on the road Thursday night.

The Titans took the first set 25-17, dropped the second 25-20, took the third 25-23, dropped the fourth 25-23 and took the final 15-13.

Delaney Gross led Golden Gate with 12 kills, followed by Bailee Raimer with 10 kills and two blocks. Emily Erickson finished with 12 digs and 29 assists for the Titans.

“Great win today, even better the girls learned to win on a long road trip in a tough environment,” Golden Gate coach Anthony Santos said. “This will be good for them going into the end of the season and playoffs, great experience earned tonight.”

Golden Gate is at Palmetto Ridge on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

COMMUNITY SCHOOL 3, ST. JOHN NEUMANN 0: The Seahawks won 25-6, 25-11, 25-15.

Camberly Moricon led CSN with 21 kills, followed by Laura Zoulaga with six kills. Cecilia Nakfoor recorded 10 digs and Sofia Nakfoor had 32 assists for the Seahawks.

Community School hosts Gateway Charter on Tuesday at 7 p.m.; St. John Neumann hosts LaBelle on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

RIVERDALE 3, SOUTH FORT MYERS 0: The Wolfpack fell 25-6, 25-9, 25-11.

South Fort Myers hosts Dunbar on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

VENICE 3, BARRON COLLIER 0: The Cougars couldn’t get it done at home, falling to the Indians, 25-12, 25-18, 25-21.

Barron Collier’s Lexie Hamilton racked up 28 digs and maintained a 2.24 passer rating in the loss, and Emma Drew picked up seven kills and four digs.

“Girls played great defense tonight against a good Venice team,” Barron Collier coach Robert Ritchie said. “Fixed things where we lacked last night against Gulf Coast. Always tough playing three games in a row. Looking forward to the weekend off.”

Barron Collier (10-9) hosts Naples on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

GULF COAST 213, GOLDEN GATE 224, LELY 294: Azeller Dietter and Rachael Longfellow led the Sharks in the tri-match victory, each shooting a 52. Nikki Martin carded a 54 and Jo'Lee Stahl a 55 for Gulf Coast.

Gulf Coast plays Barron Collier in the Catfish Cup on Saturday at Bonita Bay at 1 p.m.; Golden Gate, Lely Gulf Coast, Naples, Palmetto Ridge, Barron Collier are at the CCAC Tournament on Wednesday.

NAPLES 199, PALMETTO RIDGE 234: Vivian Guilte led the Golden Eagles in the win, shooting a 46. Daniella Brito carded a 47, Isabella Dorobani a 49 and Gigi Axline a 57 for Naples.

Naples and Palmetto Ridge are at the CCAC Tournament on Wednesday.
