Direct injection for precision delivery

original_imagesMore precise delivery of herbicides can save farmers time and money and give them peace of mind.

Raven’s Direct Injection System takes the pure form of the chemical and puts it into a small tank on the sprayer instead of mixing it into the main carrier tank. From the small tank, the chemical runs through a pumping system and goes right in line before going out to the boom.  This allows farmers to avoid having the entire machine come in contact with the herbicide.  When he moves to another field or manages a buffer zone, all he has to do is turn off the injection pump and only has to clean the boom instead of the entire sprayer.

Denton Schwiesow, North America Sales Manager with Raven Applied Technology, speaking about how BASF Engenia herbicide once approved can be applied, tells Brownfield that spraying is much more complicated than it was just a few years ago and farmers need to look at all the tools available to them. Direct injection, he explains, is not a new concept.  It has been around for several decades and was used pre-glyphosate to manage multiple chemistries.  Over the years, the industry has learned a great deal about what it takes to be effective.  By adding multiple sensors and back-up sensors in pumps and maps to show where the fields have been sprayed, farmers can have the confidence and peace of mind that the chemical has been applied at the correct rate in the correct location.
