Limited harvest activity in northeast Nebraska

harvest-soybeans-utica-9-15Harvest is just getting started in northeast Nebraska.

Tony Johanson farms near Oakland and is a seed advisor for Central Valley Ag cooperative.

“There’s been a little bit of wet corn picked around here…and from what I’ve seen, riding in a few combines with growers, it’s been all over the board—anywhere from 150 field average all the way up to 230 bushel field average,” Johanson says. “It really depends on where you were at throughout the rainfall period this summer.”

Johanson says heavy rains this month have delayed soybean harvest.

“On my farm, I had ten inches in a week, about two weeks ago. That’s really impacted the standability and the ability for those plants to lift and drop their leaves,” he says. “We’re seeing some soybean plants where the tops are dry, but the bottoms are not.  So that’s delayed harvest just a little bit.”

Johanson plans to start on his own soybeans this weekend, but he says corn harvest is still a couple of weeks away.
