The U.S. House is set to vote on the 2016 Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) later today. Co-Sponsor Bob Gibbs (R-Ohio) says the bill includes funding for infrastructure projects on major US waterways.

“It’s really important. It addresses the needs for our harbors, the locks and dams on our river systems and of course with the ports. The depths, the drafts, the widths and flood protection.” says Gibbs.

He tells Brownfield several amendments were attached to the bill late Tuesday including funding for declared disaster areas such as Flint Michigan to address lead in the water and flooding issues in Louisiana.

“Flint’s been declared a disaster, obviously Louisiana has been declared a disaster. This house amendment, if it’s adopted will provide $170 million and will be open up to any disaster but obviously Flint and Louisiana will be at the top of the list.” says Gibbs.

Gibbs expects passage of the bill and says it includes both federal funds and allows local entities to help fund studies for major infrastructure projects.

A vote on the bill is expected late today. Earlier this month, the Senate passed its version of the bill which includes federal aid to help Flint, Michigan.
