Two injured in West Bend house fire

An 18-year-old woman and her 24-year-old brother were injured Monday in a house fire in West Bend, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

The fire was reported shortly before 8:30 a.m. at a single-family home in the 4900 block of Eagle Lane, according to a news release from the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

According to the release, the brother said he heard some type of explosion before seeing heavy smoke and fire coming from the basement, where firefighters located his sister.

She was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital and later to Columbia St. Mary's Regional Burn center with injuries that appear to be minor.

Her brother was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital with minor cuts to his hands and arms and three other family members in the home were not injured, according to the release.

The fire caused about $300,000 in damage to the home and the fire remained under investigation, according to the release.
