Amway Coaches Poll stock watch: Wisconsin surges, Michigan State tumbles

Wisconsin coach Paul Chryst and the Badgers took down No. 8 Michigan State 30-6 on Saturday.

Week Four in college football produced the usual array of memorable plays and wild endings but little shakeup at the top of the Amway Coaches Poll.

The top seven teams stayed put with Alabama easily retaining the No. 1 position it has held all season. The Crimson Tide received 61 of 64 first-place votes after an easy romp past Kent State.

Ohio State held steady at No. 2. The Buckeyes, who had the weekend off, retained their two first-place nods with No. 3 Clemson getting the last one. Louisville held steady at No. 4 on the eve of next week’s huge showdown with Clemson. No. 5 Michigan, No. 6 Stanford and No. 7 Houston also held serve.

Amway Coaches Poll: Top 25

Stock up: Wisconsin, The Badgers moved up two big steps to No. 8, replacing Michigan State at that position, the team that they soundly defeated on the road.

Stock down: Michigan State. On the short end of that results, the Spartans fell eight places to No. 16.

Stock up: Texas A&M. The Aggies used a big fourth quarter to pull away from previously unbeaten Arkansas and gained three poll positions to crack the top 10.

Stock down: Georgia. The Bulldogs took a nine-position plunge to No. 20 after losing big at Mississippi.

Stock up: Utah. The Utes’ late rally to defeat Southern California Friday night earned them a five-position gain to No. 18.

Stock down: Florida. The Gators slid five places to No. 21 after being overtaken by Tennessee in Knoxville.

New kids on the block: No. 23 North Carolina, No. 24 San Diego State.

College dropouts: LSU, Iowa.
