A man convicted of opening fire on a car in Brookfield in a drug dispute last year, wounding a man while narrowing missing  his wife and 2-year-old son, was sentenced to 30 years in prison Wednesday, according to court records.

Christopher L. Jackson, 31, of Milwaukee, was found guilty by a jury on two counts of attempted homicide, one count of recklessly endangering safety and one count of illegally possessing a gun after a trial in July.

He was sentenced Wednesday by Waukesha County Circuit Judge Lee S. Dreyfus Jr. to three decades in prison and another 20 years on extended supervision, according to online court records.

At the time of the shooting, Jackson was on supervised release from federal prison on a gun and drug conviction from a decade ago.

Jackson also is charged in federal court with being a felon in possession of a gun. He is due in federal court on Sept. 8.

A criminal complaint reveals how close the bullets came to hitting the victim's wife and child, who was in a car seat in back. The man was wounded by bullets hitting him in the face and leg.

According to the complaint, the victim had arranged to buy pain pills from Jackson in the parking lot of Target, on N. 124th St. and W. Capitol Drive. The victim gave Jackson a fraction of the agreed-upon price, and then ran back to the car and told his wife to go, worried Jackson was going to shoot him.

Jackson pursued the car around Brookfield, through a grocery store lot, finally pulling up along side it near W. Burleigh Blvd. and Cullen Drive and opening fire.

Officers also found a bullet casing at the scene that had been fired from a .40-caliber handgun later found at Jackson's house on Milwaukee's north side, the complaint says.

After police and federal agents surrounded the house, Jackson tried to escape by diving through a window and running through yards, but officers caught him.
