From shooting a longbow to tracing your ancestry, there’s a lot to discover at the Wisconsin Highland Games.

Katie Crowley throws a caber, a 14-foot long, 70-pound pole, during the Milwaukee Highland Games at Wauwatosa's Hart Park on June 4.

The annual celebration of the arts, culture and heritage of the British Isles returns to the Waukesha Expo Center, 1000 Northview Road in Waukesha, Friday through Sunday. Friday brings the opening ceremonies and awards, followed by a party in the arena. The main events — including the pipe and drum competition, battle ax and knife throw, and caber toss — begin Saturday morning.

The Wisconsin Highland Games are open from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday; 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday; and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday. Events end at 6 p.m. on Saturday and 5 p.m. on Sunday, but the Pub Tent remains open with live music following the events.

Tickets are $10 at the gate; $7 in advance. Kids ages 12 and under get in free. Parking is $5 Saturday and Sunday. Admission and parking for the opening ceremony on Friday is free.
