MHS Health to drop ACA plans in state

Milwaukee
The number of medical students is increasing as medical educators consider how to offset an expected shortage of physicians in Wisconsin.

MHS Health Wisconsin, the brand name for Managed Health Services, is pulling out of the Wisconsin market for health plans on the marketplaces set up through the Affordable Care Act next year.

The health plans are sold under the name Ambetter.

In a statement, MHS Health Wisconsin said it has notified the people enrolled in the health plans that their coverage will expire at the end of the year.

The health insurer, part of Centene Corp., will continue to be one of the managed care organizations that contract with the state to manage the care of people covered by BadgerCare Plus, the state’s largest Medicaid program.

UnitedHealthcare also does not plan to sell health plans on the marketplaces in Wisconsin next year.

Molina Healthcare, Network Health Plan, Common Ground Healthcare Cooperative and Children’s Community Health Plan are expected to participate in the marketplaces for Milwaukee County next year.
