Doug Baldwin takes shot at teammate for complaining about money

Michael Bennett has spent a lot of time this offseason talking about his and other NFL players’ contracts. The Seahawks pass rusher has made it clear that he’d like a new contract and makes a point to remind the world he’s still underpaid whenever an NFL superstar signs a massive extension.

That seems to have rubbed at least one of his teammates the wrong way. We’ll let Seattle WR Doug Baldwin take it from here.

Via The News Tribune:

“I mean, yes, there is a ‘code.’ But Mike B. doesn’t always necessarily operate by that code, either,” Baldwin said.

“It hard to take him serious when he talks about other guys taking food off his kids’ plate – when he is driving around here with 10 different cars, you know?”

While many would be turned off be hearing a millionaire athlete complain complaining about putting food on his kids’ plate, Bennett is not wrong. He is not paid commensurate to his performance, which is what we all want from our employer. The 30-year-old has been one of best 4-3 defensive ends in the league for a few years now but makes less than guys like Jared Odrick and Robert Ayers. That’s not exactly fair.

And maybe Baldwin isn’t the guy who should be making these comments. After all, he got his big money extension in June when he signed a four-year, $46 million deal. He can now afford to load his kids’ plates up with food while also driving around 10 cars. He’s living Bennett’s dream.
