Lions add CB Brandon McGee, cut Keith Lewis
Allen Park – The Detroit Lions made a roster move at cornerback leading up to the team’s third preseason game, signing Brandon McGee and waiving Keith Lewis.
A fifth-round draft pick out of Miami in 2013, the 5-foot-11, 193-pound McGee played two seasons with the St. Louis Rams, appearing in 17 games and recording 18 tackles. A foot injury ended his second campaign after just two games.
Last year, McGee split time with the Rams, Giants and Cowboys. Even though the addition comes late in the offseason, coach Jim Caldwell said McGee’s experience gives him an opportunity.
“It’s late, but he’s got an opportunity to learn,” Caldwell said. “Most of the guys who have been in multiple systems can adjust pretty quickly, pretty rapidly.”
To make room for McGee, the Lions released Lewis, who had joined the team in June, just before the start of minicamp. He played a combined 23 snaps in the first two exhibition games.
