It’s no surprise that Net-A-Porter snapped up organic, US beauty brand Kjaer Weis, to stock. Founded by Danish make up artist, Kirsten Kjaer Weis, the brand combines a luxury element with organics and sustainability. It’s still the case that if you make colour products organic, you have a lot less to play with in terms of ingredients to make shades with, but the new High Performance Lipsticks from this brand are giving non-organics a run for their money albeit in a more edited shade range.
The packaging is what puts this brand apart from other organic and natural make up. The weight of the compact foundation – you could knock someone out with it! However, it’s £51 which is why it’s lounging on Net rather than in your local Boots.
Once you’ve made your initial packaging outlay – and it is built to last – it’s refills all the way from there to cut down on waste. Health conscious beauty is on a big curve right now – it started off somewhat apologetically as ‘organics’ but was still a buzz word on everyone’s lips mainly around sustainability and recyling. Now, health and beauty are being inextricably linked more and more. Kjaer Weis is for those that are actively choosing to be in that zone and not really for those who will give it a nod. The products aren’t amazing enough to choose them over non-organics unless you are dedicated to that path but a select audience, who have a) the money and b) the inclination will find the brand a very big upgrade from organic make up of old. In its category, I can’t really fault it for choice and quality but you will need a healthy bank balance – a lip tint is £34, blush is £40 and and lipstick is £42.
The lipstick shade shown here is Believe and the compact foundation shade is Paper Thin. The new products launch onto Net in September.

Before I even saw the packaging I knew if Net a Porter had snapped this up it was going to be luxurious!

Like to point out that innovative smaller independent green beauty shops like Content Beauty in London and Amazingy in Berlin have discovered and supported Kjaer Weis for some years now. We shouldn’t need Net a Porter to validate our green choices however glad they’re bringing these brands to the mainstream. You also mentioned beauty fatigue in an earlier article I feel these independents are fresh and exciting with their discoveries eg Fur oil so there’s hope on the horizon!
