UPDATE: A Chambersburg man has been charged in connection with an incident in which he allegedly pointed a handgun at a woman the afternoon of Aug. 17, according to a news release from Pennsylvania State Police, Chambersburg.

Brandon Mason, 27, is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and terroristic threats, the release shows.

At about 3:15 p.m., authorities responded to a report at a home in 1200 block of Paul Mar Road in which the woman said Mason got angry over his weight equipment being moved. According to the release, Mason then obtained a handgun, loaded it and pointed it at the woman while she stood two feet away. The woman was able to flee the home and call 911.

A perimeter was established around the home, an arrest warrant was obtained for Mason and, because there were believed to be multiple firearms in the home, PSP's Special Emergency Response Team was called to assist, police said.

Mason came out of the home and was taken into custody without incident, the report shows. He was then taken to the Franklin County Jail for arraignment.

CHAMBERSBURG - Authorities remain on the scene of a reported standoff at a residence in the area of Paul Mar Drive just east of Chambersburg as of about midnight Wednesday into Thursday morning.

The incident began between 4:30-5 p.m. according to Lt. Gary Carter of the Pennsylvania State Police, Chambersburg barracks. Shortly before the call went out, police believe area man Brandon Mason was involved with an aggravated assault.

As officers determined Mason, 27, to be their main suspect, they also received information that Mason had several firearms in the Paul Mar Road home.

State police were serving an arrest warrant for aggravated assault for Brandon Mason, 27, on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 in Guilford Township. He is currently in custody.

Because of that, Carter made the call to bring in PSP's Special Emergency Response Team.

Police made contact with Mason throughout the evening, telling him about their processes and that they wanted to detain him. He ultimately surrendered.

Carter could not say whether there were significant amounts of firearms in the residence, but Mason was alone in the home.

Emergency personel begin to pack up after state troopers made their arrest on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 in Guilford Township.

Mason was detained for the aggravated assault from earlier tonight.

"It was just a matter of a safety thing," Carter said.

Though there were several social media rumors this was connected to an out of county robbery, Carter said it was an isolated incident.

A search warrant for the Paul Mar Road home was filed with Magisterial District Court Judge David Plum.

Additional information is expected from state police as they work through the investigation.
