GREENCASTLE - There was still no word Tuesday night on the whereabouts of Julie McCutcheon, the Greencastle woman who went missing a week ago while house-sitting for a friend in Gettysburg.

Pennsylvania State Police in Chambersburg are investigating McCutcheon's disappearance but a spokesman said the case is still active and no new information was available.

Robyn Koons, a friend and fellow Ski Liberty employee, said McCutcheon, 36, would not have just have taken off and left all of her belongings and responsibilities behind.

"She is one of the nicest people you could know," she said. "She's super responsible and very close to her family."

She is also heavily invested in the local equestrian community and was supposed to attend a horse show last weekend. She didn't show up. Koons said she has also been looking forward to having a new horse delivered this weekend.

She was last seen by family members Aug. 7 when she came back from a vacation with her brother, Koons said.

She was supposed to house sit for another friend in Gettysburg, near Emmitsburg, Maryland, and take care of that friend's two dogs, something she was doing at the time of her disappearance a few days later.

"We know she got to her friend's house because all her clothes and personal belongings, including her cell phone, were left there," Koons said.

Koons texted McCutcheon early Wednesday morning, Aug. 10, to tell her a friend's mother had died, but didn't get a response. She texted her again on Thursday and again didn't get a response.

She contacted McCutcheon's family, who went to the home she was supposed to be house sitting and found her clothes, personal belongings, but not her car. The remote to the car was on a key chain but the physical key was gone.

The family contacted police, who took a missing person report.

Family and friends have been searching parks and campgrounds in the areas around Gettysburg and Emmitsburg since realizing she was missing last week, but so far to no avail.

"Julie isn't the kind of person to just get up and leave like that," Koons said. "She never would have left her friend's two dogs alone and uncared for either."

Her bank card was used in Winchester, Virginia, on Aug. 11 and then again in South Carolina Aug. 12 before being cancelled by the bank because of suspicious activity on the account.

McCutcheon is described as 5 feet, 4 inches tall and 180 pounds. She has blue eyes and shoulder-length "dirty blond" hair.

Her missing vehicle is a 2009 grey Kia Sportage with a Pennsylvania license plate number JRW5897.

Anyone with information about her whereabouts should contact Pennsylvania State Police at 717-264-5161.
