Beta Sigma Phi sorority makes donations

Staff report

CHAMBERSBURG - The local chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority recently donated $700 among various local organizations and programs.

The group donated $200 to the Oncology Bridge Fund of Summit Health, which helps cancer patients cover their living and travel expenses while undergoing treatment, and $100 to the Chambersburg Hospital Newborn Intensive Care Unit, which earlier this year underwent major upgrades that allowed the unit to increase the level of care it is able to offer.

"We are so grateful this vibrant group of women chose our patients to benefit from their fundraising efforts," said Summit Health Donor Relations and Annual Giving Officer Beth Stephey. "We feel so fortunate that the members of our community understand the needs some of our patients face, and have been so generous in their efforts to help them meet those needs."

The sorority also donated $400 to Homeless Matters, which was recently formed and is dedicated to helping the homeless population in Franklin County. In a statement, Chambersburg Area School District official Kris Carroll said: "(Homeless Matters) was initiated by a citizen in the community contacting me and being concerned about the homeless numbers in the Chambersburg Area School District. As a result we initiated a committee that is composed of community members and school district employees. We have had many individuals from our community reach out and make donations. This is a very worthy cause. I am certain that this committee will do incredible things for the homeless population in our community."
