Brig. Gen. Andrew E. Salas, commander of the New Mexico National Guard, will address Lincoln County Republicans at their monthly dinner meeting on Monday, Aug. 8.

Party chair Joe Eby said the event is open to the public.

The meeting is at 6:30 p.m., at the Cree Meadows Country Club. Dinner is at 6 p.m. and tickets are $15.00.  Reservations are encouraged and can be made at bsd@bajabd.com.

As Adjutant General, Salas commands the Army and Air National Guard and serves as the commander of the State Defense Force.

In addition to his federal duties, Salas serves as military chief of staff to the Governor and as the Governor’s principal advisor on military affairs. He is also president of the State Armory Board and provides oversight for the New Mexico Civil Air Patrol.

Eby said the general has been asked to discuss the nation's shrinking armed forces and the role of reserve forces in maintaining military readiness. GOP dinner speakers generally include time for questions from the audience at the end of their prepared remarks.
