Cheese stocks hit record in May

CheeseHigh production levels and increased international competition continued to push U.S. cheese stocks to record levels for another straight month.

At the end of May, the USDA says cheese stocks, at 1.2 billion pounds, were up 12 percent on the year and the highest total for that month since 1917.

Butter came out at almost 325 million pounds, a 23 percent year to year jump, also on rising production levels.

May’s dairy production numbers are out July 6th.
