Roberts and Stabenow are still discussing GMO labeling

capitol_domeSenate ag committee chairman Pat Roberts says he is meeting again this week with ranking member Debbie Stabenow to try to settle their differences on a GMO labeling bill, according to a DTN report.

Meanwhile, House ag committee chairman Mike Conaway is expressing frustration with what he views as Stabenow’s lack of movement on the issue. Even with a Senate compromise, Conaway says he stands by the voluntary-only labeling law passed by the House in 2015.

Absent a national labeling standard and with Vermont’s mandatory law taking effect July 1st, most major food companies have already prepared new GMO labels to begin hitting store shelves in a few weeks.
