Roberts and Stabenow are still discussing GMO labeling

Senate ag committee chairman Pat Roberts says he is meeting again this week with ranking member Debbie Stabenow to try to settle their differences on a GMO labeling bill, according to a DTN report.

Meanwhile, House ag committee chairman Mike Conaway is expressing frustration with what he views as Stabenow’s lack of movement on the issue. Even with a Senate compromise, Conaway says he stands by the voluntary-only labeling law passed by the House in 2015.

Absent a national labeling standard and with Vermont’s mandatory law taking effect July 1st, most major food companies have already prepared new GMO labels to begin hitting store shelves in a few weeks.
