Wet weather hindered Iowa fieldwork

soybean seedlingWet weather continues to present challenges for Iowa farmers who are trying to wrap up planting and conduct other field work.

Corn planting is virtually complete, but 12 percent of soybeans remain to be planted. Corn emergence reached 90 percent, five days ahead of normal, and the crop is rated 77 percent good to excellent. Soybean emergence, at 55 percent, is three days ahead of normal.

The first cutting of alfalfa hay is 35 percent complete, five days ahead of average. Both hay and pasture conditions rated 78 percent good to excellent.
