Hey there everyone! It's Angie from Knick of Time, and I'm back to share my latest project - a repurposed metal pallet wall shelf.
Yes, I said metal pallet!
I've used wood pallets for many, many projects (you can see them here), but I didn't even know metal ones existed, until my husband brought one home.
They are heavy-duty and have a really cool industrial look to them. Maybe they came out of an old downtown warehouse.
At first, I wasn't quite sure what to do with it. Because I knew I couldn't cut or pull it apart like I wold with a wood pallet. So I studied it for a bit, and realized turning it into a wall shelf would be fairly easy.
Repurposed Metal Pallet Wall Shelf
Behind most of the support bars is a little ledge, which would be perfect to add wood shelves to.
I bought 3 cedar fence pickets and measured each opening, then cut the pickets to the correct sizes.
Cut boards to fit the voids in the metal pallet
Then I cut them so they would fit snugly in the openings. Therefore I didn't even need to screw or glue them to keep the in place.
Hang metal pallet with heavy gauge wire
I couldn't decide what kind of hangers to use, so I just drilled a hole on each side at the top, and twisted heavy guage wire through the holes. Of course, you could screw it directly into a wall, but I want the option to move it around.
TIP: When drilling holes through metal, make sure to use a drill bit meant for metal, or you may break your drill bit.
I cut more pieces of fence pickets to fill in the side area. I did glue those in place, so they won't get knocked out.
Later, I may make another shelf and attach it to the metal and the wood sides for support.
Then I had fun hanging it on the chalkboard wall in my entryway, and filling the shelves with glass bottles of soda, mason jar drinking glasses, and fun straws.
Who knew a metal pallet could look so good?
Two of the support bars didn't have "ledges", so I didn't add a shelves there, but I just used that space to hang a banner, and two chalkboard signs. (My teenage son did the chalkboard lettering on the signs for me! 🙂
ANOTHER TIP- Black cardstock paper works great as chalkboards!
I can see lots of ways to use this, but my favorite idea would be in a little coffee shop to hold bags of specialty coffee.
The front of the support brackets would make a perfect spot to add strips of paper, with the product names and prices on them.
It would also be fun to use for an outdoor party or wedding.
!
So, what would you make if you could get your hands on a awesome metal pallet?
I hope you'll pop over to say "hi", and see the latest projects I'm sharing at Knick of Time!
See you next month!

That is an awesome pallet project. I've never seen a metal pallet before! Your shelf turned out great and looks fabulous in your space with the banners.
