Farm Mom of the Year from Kentucky

mary courtneyKentucky Farmer Mary Courtney is Monsanto’s 2016 Farm Mom of the Year.

She tells Brownfield Ag News it is an honor to be chosen, “Being a mom and a farmer is really just who I am. They are my two passions in life. I grew up in a family with a stay at home mother who farmed full-time alongside my dad.”

Mary and her husband Shane raise corn, soybeans, tobacco, vegetables and cattle near Bagdad, in central Kentucky.

They are also raising four children under the age of eight, “We have put the pieces of our life puzzle together so that we CAN farm and raise a family farming.”

Mary Courtney is also the board director of Farm Credit Mid-America and is engaged with young farmers, school children and older citizens who come to their farm to learn about agriculture.

  • Congratulations to Mary! Well deserved. Many of my co-workers and I had the privilege of meeting Mary and her lovely family in 2015, when we volunteered an afternoon for the Farm to Food Banks program at Courtney Farms. I witnessed the commendable work she and her family are doing with their farms and for the food bank program. I hope we will have the opportunity to repeat the experience in the future. I wish Mary, Shane and the Courtney the very best and hope to see their great work continue for a long time. Congratulations again!
