Walt Disney World is home to two different water parks…Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon.
Blizzard Beach is themed as a ski resort turned into water park. It features ski runs turned into slides, melted snow pools (some of the water is chilled) and slippery slopes. You can take a ski lift up to the top of Mount Gushmore, which features the world’s tallest and fastest free-falling waterslide, the Summit Plummet.
Typhoon Lagoon opened in June of 1989 when a typhoon wreaked havoc on formerly perfect tropical paradise. When you visit Typhoon Lagoon, you will find a shrimp boat, Miss Tilly, impaled upon Mount Mayday in the center of the park. It contains a geyser that erupts with 50 feet of water every half hour.
If this is your first trip to Walt Disney World, you might want to skip the water parks. There is so much to see and do at the parks and if you are staying at a Disney Resort, the pool is usually pretty awesome. It can be a challenge to fit everything you really want to see and do into the length of your vacation. Add in the waterparks and you will be scrambling to do it all.
If you definitely want to visit a water park, you can choose between purchasing a one day ticket or adding the Park Hopper Plus option to your park tickets.
You need one day per water park to see and do everything they have to offer. They normally only operate from 10 am – 5 pm, so make sure to arrive at opening and stay all day to get your money’s worth.
