Drawing in visitors from all around the world, Japan's Mt Fuji is an eye-catching enough sight on its own. Add a fleet of LED-equipped drones dancing to traditional Japanese music in the foreground, and you've got yourself an enchanting blend of the old and the new.
Using drones to create spectacular aerial displays is an idea that is starting to gain considerable interest. In 2014, Disney filed three patents hinting at its intentions to use drones to replace fireworks and suspend floating displays in its future theme park shows.
Cirque du Soleil has also used the aircraft for a similar purpose, and earlier this year a new Guinness World Record was set as 100 drones presented an impressive light show to the sounds of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony.
Now Japanese advertising firm MicroAd is looking to get in on the action. Its Sky Magic project was demonstrated at the foot of Mt Fuji, where 20 drones equipped with a total of 16,500 LED lights hovered in formation while flickering in time to the strumming of Shamisens, traditional Japanese guitars.
MicroAd hopes to use its Sky Magic service to create floating aerial displays at festivals, sports events and the like. And if they are as visually arresting as its latest effort we can see them attracting a bit of interest. You can check it out in the video below.
